Fujita Kanko Inc., which operates in accommodation, resort, wedding, and leisure industries, celebrated its 70th anniversary on November 7, 2025. As the fourth installment of its special projects commemorating the 100th year of the Showa era in 2026, the company introduces the history and allure of the gardens at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo.
History of Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo The garden was established in 1878 by Duke Yamagata Aritomo. Unlike the then-dominant practice of using symbolic stones, the Duke employed a generous, naturalistic style that incorporated the surrounding landscape. This approach shares commonalities with the topography of his hometown, Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture.
Dedication to the Garden The 'Chinzanso Monument' within the garden is inscribed with the Duke's strong desire to cherish and protect nature.
Tokyo Sea of Clouds Project The hotel has redefined the garden as a 'base for experience, culture, and research,' launching the 'Tokyo Sea of Clouds' in 2020. This initiative recreates a natural phenomenon usually found in mountainous areas within a city-center garden. It won the 2025 Good Design Award.
New Performance: 'Tokyo Sea of Clouds - Yakumo' Starting July 1, 2026, the hotel will debut 'Tokyo Sea of Clouds - Yakumo,' an evolved mist performance. It evolves from a single-layered sea of clouds to a multi-layered, three-dimensional representation. The hotel will also offer themed course meals and desserts.
