JCB Contactless Payment Now Available on Taipei MRT in Taiwan

JCB International Co., Ltd. (JCB), a subsidiary responsible for overseas operations of JCB Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Chairman and CEO: Takayoshi Futatsugi), the only international card brand operator originating from Japan, is pleased to announce that in collaboration with Taishin Bank, JCB contactless payment will be available on all lines of Taipei MRT starting July 1, 2026 (Wed).

With this new service, cardholders can simply tap their JCB contactless payment-enabled cards or smartphones with JCB cards set up at the Taipei MRT ticket gates to make payments.

About Taipei MRT

Taipei MRT, a metropolitan rapid transit system in Taiwan that opened in 1996, is a major public transportation network connecting Taipei City and New Taipei City. It consists of multiple lines with a total length of over 100 km and numerous stations connecting key areas. It is widely used for commuting and school travel, and is indispensable for tourists. Along its lines are representative Taiwanese tourist attractions such as Taipei 101, the National Palace Museum, Ximending, and Shilin Night Market, making it easily accessible to these destinations. It is favored by many users both domestically and internationally as a convenient transportation network.

With the introduction of JCB contactless payment on Taipei MRT, JCB card members can now ride by simply tapping their JCB card or compatible device, enabling smooth and seamless travel without the hassle of purchasing tickets or topping up their balance.

Currently, in Taiwan, JCB contactless payment is available not only on Taipei MRT (including the Circular Line of New Taipei Metro) but also on Kaohsiung MRT, Taoyuan MRT, and Taichung MRT.

JCB contactless payment is being introduced in public transportation systems worldwide, contributing to improved convenience for travel and tourism. JCB will continue to promote cashless payments in the transportation sector and work to expand usage scenarios and enhance customer convenience.

JCB contactless payment (JCB Contactless) is a non-contact payment method that allows for payment completion by simply tapping a JCB contactless payment-enabled card or a smartphone with a JCB card set up on a contactless payment-compatible terminal.
