Gurunavi Inc. has been participating in the Green Innovation Fund project of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) since fiscal year 2022. Recently, the company carried out a biochar application on the fields of Hokuso Cruvege Farmers (Yotsukaido City, Chiba Prefecture), a participant in this demonstration project. As the government aims for '2050 Carbon Neutrality,' Gurunavi is leading a project to store carbon in farmland using biochar. By spreading biochar—carbonized rice husks—into the soil, the project aims to reduce atmospheric CO2 while researching 'high-function biochar' mixed with microbial materials. Seiji Kyan, representative of Hokuso Cruvege Farmers, has been practicing organic farming and using biochar for over a decade. Gurunavi plans to market produce grown with biochar as 'Mirai no Tsuchisodachi' (Future Soil-Grown) to create a new food cycle connecting producers and consumers.
