Ecomott Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Sapporo, Hokkaido; Representative Director Takuya Iriyama; hereinafter "Ecomott") and GRIFFY Inc. (Headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director Takuya Iriyama; hereinafter "GRIFFY") announce the launch of a new solution for construction companies, the "Specific Sound Detection Edge AI System," starting September 2026. This solution leverages development and operational insights gained from the jointly developed "Specific Vehicle Detection System" with Toda Corporation (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO Seisuke Ohtani; hereinafter "Toda Corporation").

This system applies the technology of PROLICA, GRIFFY's AI camera for productivity enhancement, to pre-train and analyze specific audio data collected by outdoor microphones, enabling on-site AI to detect target sounds in real time.

By using sound detection, the system can early identify the presence of approaching emergency vehicles—even in environments where buildings, curves, or other obstructions make it difficult to confirm visually or through image analysis using conventional AI cameras.

By integrating with various devices, the system automates construction vehicle dispatch control and alerts workers, contributing to improved safety at construction sites and surrounding roads.

Development Background

Preventing contact accidents at construction vehicle entrances and exits is an extremely important challenge on construction sites. In particular, at sites adjacent to emergency hospitals or in areas with frequent emergency vehicle traffic, strict entry and exit management is required to ensure that departing construction vehicles do not obstruct their passage.

Traditionally, guides have visually confirmed approaching vehicles, but visibility is difficult to ensure at night, in bad weather, or in areas with poor sightlines. While AI cameras using image analysis have advanced identification capabilities, they, like visual observation, often fail to perform effectively under poor visibility or obstructed conditions.

Furthermore, conventional sensor technologies are limited to detecting passing vehicles and struggle to identify specific vehicles such as emergency vehicles.

To address these challenges, GRIFFY has advanced joint development with Toda Corporation to create services tailored to on-site needs, leading to the development of this system that identifies specific sounds through audio analysis.

Key Features of the System

High-precision detection using audio AI By constructing machine learning models tailored to the target sound sources, the system can accurately identify specific sounds even in real-world environments with ambient noise. Verification at Toda Corporation's construction sites, with improved identification algorithms, achieved a detection rate of 98%, demonstrating high reliability.

Safety management independent of visibility Since detection is based on sound, the system operates stably even in low-visibility conditions such as nighttime or bad weather. This enables simultaneous reduction of accident risks and labor savings, even in situations where visual observation or image analysis with AI cameras previously failed.

Real-time processing with edge AI Edge AI processing is performed on devices installed at the site, enabling immediate integration with equipment. Integration with patrol lights, LED displays, and gate controls enables automatic equipment control according to site conditions.
