Handball: Long Interview with Japanese Women's National Team Player Asuka Fujita Released

The Japan Handball Association (a public interest foundation) announced the release of a long interview video featuring Asuka Fujita (No.27 / RW / CS Gloria 2018 Bistrița-Năsăud <Romania>), a member of the women's national team 'Orihime Japan,' on Friday, August 28, 2026.

About the Video

Fujita sustained a right knee injury during a friendly match against Brazil in October 2025, while on the women's national team's training tour in Portugal. At the time, she was performing strongly in both domestic league matches and the Champions League. After stepping away from competition, she has been diligently undergoing rehabilitation to return to play. In July of this year, she was selected for the Japanese national squad for the upcoming Asian Games set to begin in September.

In this video, Fujita reflects on her handball journey since middle school, her nine years of overseas experience in Germany and Romania, balancing childbirth and parenting with her athletic career in Romania, her current rehabilitation status, and her aspirations to win back-to-back gold medals at the Asian Games and qualify for the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.

About the 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya

The Japanese women's national team won the gold medal at the previous edition of the Asian Games and aims to secure a second consecutive title at this year's event.

● Women's National Team Match Schedule: September 19 (Sat) – September 27 (Sun), 2026 (Round-robin tournament with 7 teams, 6 matches total)

● Venues: Toyota Gosei Memorial Sports Hall Entrio (Inazawa City) / Kasugai City General Sports Center (Kasugai City)

Final rankings will be determined by the results of the six round-robin matches.
