Haseko Corporation (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President and CEO: Satoshi Kumano; hereinafter, "the Company") has been selected as a partner business on October 30, 2025, for the theme-based program of "KYOTO CITY OPEN LABO," an initiative by the City of Kyoto (Mayor: Koji Matsui) aiming to improve citizen services and create new markets in collaboration with private businesses. The proposal is for "Utilization of Bamboo Harvested in Kyoto City in Construction Work."

Currently, approximately 660ha of bamboo forests exist within Kyoto City. However, due to factors such as a decrease in bamboo shoot farmers and declining demand for bamboo materials, about 40% of these forests are not properly managed and detract from the landscape. To address this regional issue, the Company has partnered with the NPO Kyoto Take-Ryukyu Environmental Network (Nishikyo-ku, Kyoto City; Director: Hirotsugu Yoshida), which engages in bamboo forest management. The harvested bamboo is processed into chips on-site and purchased by the Company at a certain price. This technology, "Construction Sludge Solidification Technology Using Bamboo Chips"*1 (patent pending; hereinafter, "this technology"), jointly developed with Professor Kenichi Sato of the Faculty of Engineering at Fukuoka University, has been adopted for the new condominium development "Cielia City Suita Kishibe" (Developer: Kanden Real Estate Development Co., Ltd.). This technology is already in practical use at multiple Company construction sites and contributes to reducing CO2 emissions.

Bamboo forest management projects, which are expected to solve the problem of bamboo damage caused by unmanaged bamboo forests, face the challenge of disposing of harvested bamboo. However, by processing it into bamboo chips and reusing it at construction sites, it is possible to achieve both landscape preservation and environmental load reduction (decarbonization). The Company will continue to actively consider the reuse of bamboo chips at construction sites.

Furthermore, in accordance with the "HASEKO ZERO-Emission"*2 climate change response policy established by the Haseko Group in December 2021, the Company is promoting decarbonization at construction sites. Moving forward, based on its corporate philosophy of "Creating optimal living environments for cities and people, and contributing to society," the Company will address challenges through its business activities, aiming to enhance corporate value while working towards the realization of a sustainable society.

[Construction Sludge Solidification Flow Using Bamboo Chips]

1 Construction sludge is generated from excavation work for cast-in-place concrete piles.

2 Bamboo chips are added to the construction sludge and mixed.

3 The solidification status of the construction sludge is confirmed.

4 The sludge is loaded onto transport vehicles and transported from the construction site to an intermediate processing facility.

5 Further solidification treatment is carried out at the intermediate disposal site, and after confirming the quality for use as recycled soil, it is reused as embankment material, etc.
