Helical Fusion, Inc. (HQ: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; CEO: Takaya Taguchi), which is developing helical-type fusion power plants to achieve practical power generation and create new industries in Japan, has been certified as a 'Gifu Prime Startup' for fiscal year 2026 by the Gifu Startup Support Consortium.
The 'Gifu Prime Startup' program recognizes outstanding startups connected to Gifu Prefecture that can serve as role models for others.
In addition, the company was selected for the 'Gifu Prime Startup Support Subsidy' managed by the Gifu Prefectural Industrial Economic Promotion Center. Through this subsidy, Helical Fusion expects to receive support of up to 10 million yen (with a subsidy rate of up to two-thirds) by December 31, 2026, covering equipment, raw materials, and R&D costs. These funds will be used for the development of Helical Fusion's proprietary 'blanket and divertor' using liquid metal.
Helical Fusion is currently constructing its final demonstration device, 'Helix HARUKA' (Phase 1), in a dedicated space for the HF joint research group on the premises of the National Institute for Fusion Science (Toki City, Gifu Prefecture). Following this certification and subsidy selection, the company will further accelerate development toward the practical application of fusion energy in the 2030s while deepening its collaboration with Gifu Prefecture.
