HidaKara Co., Ltd. (Hida City, Gifu Prefecture), which operates HidaKara Shoten, and Tsumugi Fruit Orchard LLC (Takayama City, Gifu Prefecture) will hold the first "Hida no Takaramomo Tour 2026" event, "Bag Removal Experience Tour & Early Variety Taste Comparison," on July 11, 2026 (Sat) at a peach orchard in Takayama City.

While there are many peach harvesting experience events nationwide, a tour that allows the general public to experience "bag removal," which takes place about 10 days before harvest, is a rare offering nationwide. Participants will directly touch the peaches, learn how the still pale green fruit skin turns color as it is exposed to sunlight, and observe the farmers' meticulous work of removing the bags without causing damage. After the experience, they will enjoy a taste comparison of freshly harvested early varieties, savoring the differences in aroma, sweetness, and texture.

This tour, now in its third year, has been organized since 2024 by the two companies that have been jointly working on branding "Hida no Takaramomo" since 2019. It is an initiative to convey the background of peach cultivation and the farmers' craftsmanship by allowing participants to directly experience "Hida no Takaramomo," which is primarily sold online, at the production site. To date, over 100 people from across the country have participated, and the 2025 tour was featured in the Chunichi Shimbun.

Key Points of This Event

[Point 1] A Rare Agricultural Experience Touching Peaches Before Harvest

The highlight of this event is the opportunity to experience "bag removal," an agricultural task performed before harvest, rather than a typical peach harvesting experience. Peaches are grown with individual bags placed on them during their growth to protect the fruit from pests and diseases. As harvest approaches, these bags are removed to allow sunlight to reach the fruit and promote coloring. Immediately after the bags are removed, the peaches are still greenish, but they gradually turn a faint pink over about 10 days as they are exposed to sunlight. Participants can experience this farming technique firsthand by removing the bags with their own hands.

[Point 2] Taste Comparison of Early Varieties

After the bag removal experience, participants will enjoy a taste comparison of early peach varieties that are in season. They can explore the depth of peaches while savoring the unique aroma, sweetness, and flesh texture of each variety. By understanding the changes in the peaches as they are exposed to sunlight after bag removal, leading to increased color and sweetness, the connection between farming and deliciousness becomes more tangible.

[Point 3] Direct Interaction with Peach Farmers, a Unique Experience at the Production Site

This tour will be held at the peach orchard of Tsumugi Fruit Orchard, with Mr. Maesaka, who is in charge of cultivation, serving as the guide. Mr. Maesaka commented, "Although the work is challenging, the texture of the fruit the moment the bag is removed, and the aroma that can only be felt just before harvest, cannot be conveyed except on-site. We sincerely hope many people will experience it," allowing participants to hear directly from the producer.

Past Initiatives and Challenges in the Production Area

This is the third year of the "Hida no Takaramomo Tour." Over 100 people have participated in total, and some sessions were fully booked last year. This year, in addition to the harvest experience, the content has been expanded to allow for a deeper understanding of the peach growing process, including "bag removal" before harvest and a taste comparison of rare late-ripening varieties in September. The tour will be held over three months with three sessions. In recent years, the agricultural production sector has seen continued increases in the cost of materials, fuel, and labor, making the management environment for fruit farmers increasingly severe. Since the branding of "Hida no Takaramomo" began in 2019, we have been working to create a system that directly connects producers and consumers. This tour is part of that effort, and we believe that helping people understand the effort and time invested in each peach will lead to the sustainable development of peach cultivation in Hida and enhance the brand's value.
