[HIMROM (formerly Parfum HM)] will launch a new business, 'HIMROM Sense of Smell Training Program*', on August 8, 2026 (Sat), allowing individuals to discover the potential of their sense of smell through scent and refine their perceptual abilities with specially trained trainers. Concurrently, we will establish 'Olfact Fun Community,' a membership community for exploring the possibilities of smell, taste, well-being, and longevity while enjoying scents and the act of smelling.

To commemorate this launch, a small-group event will be held at Reference Kojimachi. The event will feature a lecture by Professor Emeritus Takayoshi Miwa (Otorhinolaryngology) of Kanazawa Medical University, a session with Professor Emeritus Seiichiro Yonekura (Innovation) of Hitotsubashi University, and company introductions.

*This is a new type of training designed to enhance human well-being and enrich life by unlocking the potential of the sense of smell, making activities such as dining, afternoon tea, walks, and travel more enjoyable and meaningful.

Background of the Event... Did You Know? The Sense of Smell is a Barometer of Youth and Health

The sense of smell is a sense deeply involved in our daily lives, yet it is not typically included in general health check-ups and receives less attention compared to sight and hearing. On the other hand, scent plays a role in various aspects of life, including the enjoyment of food, memories and emotions, the changing seasons, and communication with others. Furthermore, the ability to perceive scent is linked to the depth of taste, making it an important sense that supports the enjoyment of food and daily comfort.

This business, community, and event are aimed at providing opportunities to understand one's own sense of smell and to experience a more comfortable daily life through scents and the act of smelling.

About the New Business 'Sense of Smell Training Program'

The 'HIMROM Sense of Smell Training Program*' has been developed under the supervision of Dr. Takayoshi Miwa, an otorhinolaryngologist, referencing the concept of olfactory self-care introduced by the World Health Organization (WHO). It is a program designed to bring awareness to one's sense of smell in daily life.

It is said that humans have approximately 400 types of olfactory receptors, and how each person perceives scent varies. This program involves continuously smelling multiple scents to confirm changes in the ease of perception and recognition, thereby focusing attention on one's own sense of smell. Through monthly sessions with an olfactory trainer, participants will share their daily observations, integrating scents into their lives in an enjoyable, understandable, and sustainable manner. Future plans include expansion into corporate training, community programs, and the well-being sector.

*An olfactory trainer is a companion who supports individuals in deepening their awareness of their own senses by focusing on scents and the act of smelling in their daily lives. *This program is not for diagnosing, treating, or preventing diseases. If you have concerns about your sense of smell or physical condition, please consult a medical institution as needed.

About the Membership Community 'Olfact Fun Community'

'Olfact Fun Community' is a membership community for exploring the possibilities of smell, taste, well-being, and longevity while enjoying scents and the act of smelling. Our lives are filled with many 'happiness brought by scents.' Within this community, we will deepen our awareness of our sense of smell by focusing on these everyday scents and valuing our own perceptions. The sense of smell is deeply connected to the sense of taste. Noticing the depth of flavor through the aroma of food and discussing 'this is delicious' with someone can lead to a richer experience of taste and the joy of eating. With longevity (healthy aging) in mind, we aim to enjoy our senses as we age, connect with others through scent, and lead fulfilling lives in our own way. Through workshops, discussion forums, and learning opportunities led by experts, we will create time to savor scents more freely and enjoyably.

For individual general members, we will provide opportunities to focus on their own senses while enjoying scents in daily life. For individual supporting members, we will offer opportunities to be involved in community building utilizing expertise in perfumery, medicine, nursing care, and food/well-being. For corporate members, we will offer information sharing, opportunities for inter-company exchange, and research and product development based on status.
