TOPPAN Holdings Inc. has been selected for the 'Tokyo Fire Department INNOVATION PROJECT.' Through this partnership, the company will collaborate with the Tokyo Fire Department for two years starting in May 2026 to develop fire extinguishers specifically designed for lithium-ion batteries. This project is part of the department's initiative to introduce advanced technologies to solve administrative challenges. TOPPAN proposed a 'three-in-one simple fire extinguisher' to address the rising fire risks associated with mobile batteries and electric mobility. To prevent reignition caused by thermal runaway—a challenge for conventional extinguishers—the company will develop a multi-layered structure combining fire-extinguishing film, heat-absorbing materials, and fire-resistant materials. The target users include general consumers, public transport operators, and professional firefighters. The company aims to commercialize the product by March 2028 to contribute to a safer society.
