Panasonic Homes and the Tokyo Allergy & Respiratory Disease Research Institute surveyed 36 detached homes to investigate how air conditioning styles affect indoor dust mite allergen levels and resident quality of life. The study compared whole-house air conditioning (constant ventilation and temperature control throughout the home) with individual air conditioning (room units run only when occupied). In whole-house A/C homes, average summer humidity was kept below the levels suitable for mite breeding, resulting in a clear reduction of dust mite allergen levels in floors and bedding. Furthermore, the survey showed a decrease in the ratio of residents experiencing fatigue and fatigue-like symptoms due to allergies. The results suggest that summer indoor humidity control, influenced by A/C systems, is directly linked to health risks and resident well-being.
