Hoshino Resorts, which operates 77 facilities in Japan and abroad under the theme "Making Travel Fun," began offering the "Typhoon Peace of Mind Special Clause 2026" for accommodation reservations in Okinawa Prefecture on May 31, 2026. This is a reservation support service that provides waivers of accommodation cancellation fees and discounts on accommodation charges, allowing travelers to book with peace of mind even at facilities in Okinawa, which is prone to typhoons. The service was launched in 2023 to alleviate the anxiety of those hesitant to travel to Okinawa due to typhoons and to encourage them to plan and book their trips with confidence. In its fourth year, the program has been strengthened by newly adding "ferry suspension" as a condition for waiving accommodation cancellation fees, continuing to provide enhanced support.
Initially, the service is being applied in Okinawa Prefecture, which has a high frequency of typhoon landfalls. In the future, the company is considering expanding it to the Kyushu, Chugoku, and Shikoku regions.
Background
The number of typhoons approaching Okinawa Prefecture is higher compared to the mainland. Specifically, an average of 7.7 typhoons approach or make landfall in Okinawa each year, with many concentrated in the summer season from June to October. (*1) Consequently, it was believed that a certain number of people hesitate to make reservations due to concerns about encountering a typhoon during their trip. Therefore, Hoshino Resorts is launching a support service to help people plan their Okinawa trips with peace of mind.

Three Key Points of the Typhoon Peace of Mind Special Clause 2026
Point 1: Waiver of Airline Ticket Cancellation Fees, or Free Accommodation Cancellation if Ferry is Suspended
If the airline tickets you plan to use (outbound or return) are subject to a cancellation fee waiver (no charge) due to a typhoon, or if the ferry (outbound or return) is suspended, the accommodation cancellation fee will be waived.
Point 2: 50% Discount on Room Charges When a Typhoon Approaches
On days when, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency forecast announced at 3:00 PM on the day of stay, the hotel is expected to enter the typhoon storm zone by 11:00 AM the following day (*2), the room charge will be discounted by 50% from the regular rate (*3). (*4) For prepaid reservations, the difference between the room charge calculated at a 50% discount from the regular rate (as of 3:00 PM on the applicable day) and the booked room rate will be refunded. If the reservation was made at less than 50% of the regular rate, no refund will be given.
*2 For Hoshinoya Okinawa and Hoshinoya Taketomi Island, this applies to days when the hotel is expected to enter the typhoon storm zone by noon the following day. *3 The regular rate is the price as of 3:00 PM for the following accommodation plans sold on the official website: Hoshinoya / Iriomote Hotel | Accommodation Fee; Risonare | Basic Rate (no meals); OMO | Omo-tabi (no meals); BEB | Standard Plan (no meals). *4 This discount cannot be combined with other discounts.
Point 3: Special Rates for Pre- and Post-Stay Extensions
If you wish to extend your stay before or after due to reasons such as a typhoon suspension, you can stay at a 50% discount off the regular room rate. If the hotel is fully booked, it may not be possible to reserve a pre- or post-stay extension.
The above special clauses apply automatically to all eligible guests without the need for application.
