OMO5 Hakodate Wins Silver at International Design Awards
OMO5 Hakodate by Hoshino Resorts, an urban 'town-center' hotel designed to help guests enjoy Hakodate’s seafood, night views, historic streetscapes, and local atmosphere, has won a Silver Winner award at the A' Design Award 2026. The hotel was recognized in the 'Hospitality, Recreation, Travel and Tourism Design' category. This achievement marks the third major design award for the property, following wins in two categories at the 2025 MUSE Design Awards and the IDA - International Design Awards.
### About the A' Design Award Based in Italy, this is one of the world's largest international design awards. It evaluates a wide range of fields including architecture, interior design, and products, judging entries not only on aesthetic beauty but also on functionality, innovation, and social contribution.
### About OMO5 Hakodate Opened on July 6, 2024, the hotel is situated a five-minute walk from Hakodate Station. Guided by the concept '120% Hakodate,' the hotel offers experiences ranging from morning markets to night views. Amenities include the 'Amber Hot Spring' with naturally flowing hot spring water, guest rooms reflecting Hakodate’s charm, and the 'Go-KINJO' service to support comfortable tourism.
### Design Philosophy Interior designer Fumihiko Fujii, commissioned for the rebranding and renovation of the existing property, focused on embedding the '120% Hakodate' theme throughout the facility. - Entrance: Features a massive stained-glass artwork inspired by Hakodate tourism to welcome guests. - OMO Base: A public space designed to accommodate various guest activities. - OMO Dining: Employs motifs such as the star-shaped Goryokaku fortress and squid fishing lamps to create a vibrant atmosphere reminiscent of a local fish market. - Guest Rooms: Features playful illustrations based on Hakodate’s night view and squid motifs.
Through this project, Hoshino Resorts continues to develop facilities that elevate the travel experience by deeply connecting design with regional identity.
