Ichinoyu Inc. (Headquarters: Hakone, Ashigarashimo District, Kanagawa Prefecture; President: Takaya Ogawa), which operates hot spring inns and villas in Hakone, will resume its car-camping plan at 'Sengokuhara Shinokino Ichinoyu' starting June 10, 2026. This plan was originally offered during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2021, and its return comes in response to numerous requests. For 5,500 yen per vehicle (weekdays), guests receive unlimited access to day-trip hot spring baths (usually 1,400 yen), as well as 24-hour access to restrooms and microwave facilities. Initially limited to one vehicle per day on weekdays, the company aims to become a 'Michi-no-Yu' (Roadside Hot Spring) for car-camping beginners.
Born from field feedback: Hakone's 'Michi-no-Yu'
The 'Car-Camping Beginner Plan' was a huge success during the pandemic. Although it was suspended once the situation calmed down, the staff frequently received inquiries asking when it would return. With travel costs rising due to inflation, the demand for car camping remains high. However, the Sengokuhara area of Hakone lacks sufficient infrastructure where people can easily park and spend the night. The staff thought, 'Why don't we open our parking lot and hot springs and act as a 'Michi-no-Eki' (Roadside Station) for everyone? Actually, since we have hot springs, let's call it 'Michi-no-Yu'.' Fueled by this passion, they decided to bring it back.
2,750 yen per person for two: A 'bug in pricing' with hot springs and restrooms included
Unlike standard ryokan pricing, which is per person, this plan is charged per vehicle. At 5,500 yen per vehicle on weekdays, it costs only 2,750 yen each for two people. Considering it includes the 1,400 yen hot spring bath fee, it is truly a bargain.
Equipped with hot springs, restrooms, and microwaves: A gateway for beginners
For beginners wanting to start car camping, spending the night in a location without facilities can be daunting due to concerns about restrooms and security. With this plan, guests have 24-hour access to indoor restrooms and a microwave, and most importantly, the public hot spring bath (usually 1,400 yen) can be used as many times as desired during business hours. This time, additional comfort options are available: portable battery rentals (1,100 yen), lobby free drinks (1,100 yen per person), and, depending on availability, the option to use a room or sauna (for an additional fee).
To Mt. Kintoki or Lake Ashi the next day: Freely coordinate your schedule
Since you are not bound by ryokan meal times, your stay style is completely free. Relax in the hot springs at night and head straight for hiking on Mt. Kintoki or fishing at Lake Ashi early the next morning. Use this as your base for a Hakone trip combined with your own activities.
(Please cooperate by keeping quiet after 9:00 PM for a smart experience.)
