Infocom Corporation (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Jun Kuroda) has jointly developed an AI function to support the creation of discharge summaries using "Medi-Bank" with the Osaka Metropolitan Organization for Advanced Acute and General Medical Care, and has moved into a verification phase through actual operation. The company aims to launch sales of this function within the current fiscal year.

[Background]

As the "work style reform for physicians" progresses, documentation tasks, including the creation of discharge summaries, have become a significant burden. Discharge summaries are important documents that record a patient's medical progress and are used for information sharing not only within the hospital but also with other medical institutions. Their creation requires a great deal of time and a high level of quality.

Furthermore, extracting and summarizing necessary information from complex medical records is not easy, and cases of omissions or insufficient information can arise due to daily workload. Therefore, improving the efficiency and ensuring the quality of discharge summary creation are urgent issues.

[Overview]

In this joint research, an AI function to support the creation of discharge summaries has been implemented in "Medi-Bank," a medical information management system introduced in over 1,100 facilities nationwide.

Achieving "Significant Time Savings" and "High Quality" in Discharge Summary Creation through Accurate Data Linkage and AI Draft Generation

The AI automatically generates a draft of the discharge summary directly within the secure system, eliminating the need to copy and paste data from external generative AI tools. Based on accurate medical records linked with electronic health records, pathology systems, etc., the AI creates a draft, significantly reducing physicians' creation time and ensuring the production of high-quality records. The AI function also supports nurses in creating nursing summaries.

Flexible Prompt Settings Tailored to the Needs of Each Department and Physician

It is possible to set description rules for each medical department and instructions (prompts) tailored to the areas of responsibility of individual physicians. Depending on the policies of the implementing facility, prompts can be pre-configured in the system or issued during the creation of the discharge summary, further supporting the creation of higher-quality discharge summaries.

Promoting Medical DX through Compliance with "HL7 FHIR"

In addition to the newly implemented AI function, this system complies with the international standard "HL7 FHIR," which is the foundational technology for the "Electronic Health Record Information Sharing Service" promoted by the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. It also complies with the "Guidance on Discharge Summary Creation" jointly formulated by the Japan Association for Medical Informatics and the Japan Society of Medical Records Management. This enables advanced structured data management that supports medical DX.

This AI function will be exhibited as a reference at the "International Modern Hospital Show 2026" held at Tokyo Big Sight from July 8 (Wed) to 10 (Fri) at the Infocom booth [Booth Number: 190]. You can experience the actual screens and operational feel at the venue. Please visit our booth when you attend.

Additionally, a part of this function will be introduced during our seminar held during the exhibition. We sincerely look forward to your participation.

[Future Development]

Moving forward, we will verify the results through actual operation and proceed with productization for sales launch within the current fiscal year. Furthermore, we plan to expand AI utilization and strengthen collaboration not only for discharge summary creation but also across all our hospital-related products, including "Medi-UNITE" for general medical document creation, "PICS" to support pharmacists in creating instruction records, "CWS" to assist nurses with shift scheduling, and "Medi-Bank (Medi-Bank)/DPC" for DPC billing.

Infocom will continue to contribute to reducing the workload of medical professionals and improving the quality of medical care by developing and providing advanced IT services that meet the needs of medical sites.
