[JAF Akita] 1st 'Chew for Health!' High School Recipe Contest Announced

The Akita Branch of JAF (Japan Automobile Federation), headed by Branch Manager Tetsumitsu Ito, is calling for recipe submissions from high school students in Akita Prefecture that emphasize 'chewing thoroughly,' from Monday, April 13, to Friday, July 31.

In Akita Prefecture, where population decline is a major social issue, efforts to prevent lifestyle-related diseases and extend healthy life expectancy are crucial to realize a society where every citizen can stay healthy and active for a long time. This contest aims to promote better eating habits for extending healthy life expectancy by collecting recipes designed for autumn or winter that use Akita-grown ingredients and focus on the necessity of chewing.

- Application Period: Monday, April 13, 2026 – Friday, July 31, 2026 - Eligibility: High school students in Akita Prefecture - Application Conditions: (1) An individual dish suitable for adults (2) A menu that can be easily prepared at home (3) Consideration for the importance of chewing thoroughly (4) Balanced nutrition (5) Theme centered on autumn or winter, preferably using ingredients from Akita Prefecture

- Primary Screening (Document screening): August 2026 (5 entries selected) - Secondary Screening (Practical skill test): Saturday, September 26, 2026, 10:00–15:00 Akita Prefectural Social Welfare Hall, 8F Cooking Training Room (1-5 Asahikita-sakaecho, Akita City, Akita Prefecture)

[Awards]

- 1 Grand Prize, 2 Excellence Prizes - Commercialization of winning entries: (1) The top 3 works are planned to be commercialized and sold by Marudai Co., Ltd. (2) Marudai Co., Ltd. will supervise the commercialization process. (3) Cooking processes and ingredients may be partially modified for commercial production.
