JAF Gifu: Try Your First Bouldering This Autumn! Event on October 17 (Sat)

The Japan Automobile Federation (JAF) Gifu Branch (Branch Chief: Motoshi Kato) will host the 'JAF Day: Bouldering Challenge at Hyouryutan Island' on Saturday, October 17, in Ōgaki City, Gifu Prefecture. This event is open to everyone, including first-timers and children.

This marks the third time JAF is holding an event at Bouldering & Climbing Park Hyouryutan Island, following the successful event on July 26 last year. It's a hands-on bouldering experience designed for those who have wanted to try climbing but haven't taken the first step.

The facility features wide, gently sloped climbing areas suitable even for beginners and children, allowing participants with less upper-body strength to enjoy the activity fully. Additionally, this event offers a special opportunity to experience 'rope climbing'—safely ascending a 7-meter wall with rope assistance—a feature not normally included in regular sessions. (Rope climbing is optional and available only to those who wish to participate.)

JAF Day events are interactive activities held across Japan to foster camaraderie among JAF members and staff.

【Event Date and Time】October 17 (Sat), 10:00–12:00

【Venue】Bouldering & Climbing Park Hyouryutan Island (2-143-1 Wago Honmachi, Ōgaki City, Gifu Prefecture)

【Capacity】20 participants (The event will be canceled if fewer than 10 people register.)

【Eligibility】JAF members and their companions

【Participation Fee】¥2,700 per person (flat rate regardless of age) – Includes rental climbing shoes and insurance

【Application Deadline】Thursday, October 8, 9:00 AM

【Results Notification】If applications exceed capacity, selected participants will be notified by email after October 8.

【Schedule】

- Initial briefing: 10 minutes

- Climbing technique instruction: 45 minutes

- Free climbing time: 60 minutes

- Rope climbing (optional): Conducted in rotation during free time

Socks (required), drinks, towel

【Important Notes】

- Minimum age: 5 years old.

- Children may participate without an accompanying adult (facility entry for accompanying adults is free).

- Wear comfortable clothing suitable for physical activity and that you don’t mind getting dirty. Skirts and dresses are not permitted due to safety concerns.

- Climbing shoe sizes available: 17–30 cm

- Separate changing rooms for men and women
