YUGEN Gallery (operated by Jeane Inc.) is pleased to announce its participation in 'WHAT CAFE EXHIBITION vol.39: Emerging Directors & Curators U40,' taking place in Tennozu, Tokyo from July 4 (Sat), 2

This group exhibition brings together gallery directors and curators under the age of 40 who are active in the art industry. Gathering at WHAT CAFE, each participant will introduce artists and artworks selected from their unique perspectives. A total of 14 directors and curators will each select one artist and design an individual exhibition space. Against the backdrop of contemporary themes such as digital nativity, globalization, diversity, and environmental issues, visitors can look forward to a diverse array of works chosen with distinctive sensibilities.

This exhibition is the second installment following the successful 'WHAT CAFE EXHIBITION vol.39: Emerging Directors & Curators U40' held in December 2024. Since its opening in 2020, WHAT CAFE has continuously provided opportunities for emerging artists to present and sell their works. By creating a collaborative platform for the next generation of directors, curators, and artists, the venue aims to further energize the art industry.

The artist participating through YUGEN Gallery (represented by Mariko Hosoki) will be Kei Imai.

Kei Imai's practice begins with human errors (misprints) that occur physically during the silk-screen printing process, exploring themes of 'perception' and 'choice of perspective.' Through the repetitive act of printing, unexpected images emerge, offering an approach to the cognitive mechanisms shaped by human vision and experience. Imai's highly anticipated new works will be unveiled at this exhibition, presenting expressions that redefine the way we perceive things and choose our viewpoints.
