▼Selected Theme: Development of an On-Premise Document OCR System Using a Japanese-Specific VLM

In industries with strict security requirements, such as finance, healthcare, and government, there are many cases where cloud-based OCR services cannot be used due to restrictions related to personal information protection and various guidelines.

Based on the inference technology cultivated with its existing cloud-based AI-OCR product 'GenOCR' and a deep understanding of Japanese forms, Jinbay Co., Ltd. will promote the development of an on-premise GenOCR that requires no external communication and can operate in a completely closed environment.

In this project, the company will fine-tune a VLM (Vision Language Model) to address challenges unique to Japanese documents, such as vertical writing, ruby annotations, and handwritten characters, with a target of improving character recognition accuracy by 10% or more compared to existing models.

The company aims to introduce the on-premise version of GenOCR to at least one customer in the finance, healthcare, or government sectors within six months after the end of the subsidy project.

This is a support program that started in FY2023 following the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications' 'Startup Creation-type Exploratory Research and Development Support Project'.
