JOGMEC Signs Joint Survey Agreement for Oil and Natural Gas Exploration in the Republic of Indonesia

JOGMEC (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; Chairperson: Ichiro Takahara) and Japan Petroleum Exploration Co., Ltd. (hereinafter "JAPEX"; Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President and CEO: Michihiro Yamashita) have entered into a Cooperation Agreement with Padjadjaran University (hereinafter "UNPAD") of the Republic of Indonesia on July 8, 2026. The agreement pertains to joint surveys targeting oil and natural gas in the northern offshore area (partially onshore) of Sumatra Island in the Republic of Indonesia.

Based on this agreement, a consortium formed by JOGMEC and JAPEX will conduct overseas geological structure surveys utilizing existing geological data in collaboration with UNPAD. This consortium has received approval from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (hereinafter "DG Migas") of Indonesia to conduct joint surveys under a direct bidding system as an overseas geological structure survey project. Following consultations with DG Migas, it has been decided to proceed with the joint survey in partnership with UNPAD, a local university.

The target area for this survey is a promising sedimentary basin where accumulations of oil and natural gas are expected. The project will involve reprocessing existing seismic data, interpreting geological structures, and evaluating petroleum systems. By incorporating UNPAD's knowledge and experience, the exploration potential of the target area will be assessed.

If new oil resource potential is confirmed as a result of the survey, JOGMEC will support Japanese companies in acquiring exploration rights through the direct bidding system, thereby promoting their expansion into Indonesia and contributing to the further development of oil and natural gas exploration in the country.

As part of its international cooperation efforts to ensure a stable supply of energy resources, JOGMEC aims to strengthen its relationship with Indonesia through this survey and to create business opportunities for Japanese companies in the region.
