The Japan Foundation (JF) will invite Bella Galhos, Presidential Advisor to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, to Japan for a 10-day visit starting Tuesday, June 23, 2026.

Galhos has experienced the tumultuous modern history of her homeland firsthand. As a key player in nation-building, she focuses on grassroots initiatives to drive social change for future generations. Her efforts have been globally recognized, including her selection as one of BBC's '100 Women' in 2023 and receiving the Unsung Heroes of Compassion Award in 2017.

During her visit, she will observe sites focused on environmental conservation, community development, and social enterprises to gain insights into their operations. She will also engage in discussions with experts and institutions on social reform through youth leadership and female empowerment. On Monday, June 29, she will join a public talk session titled 'Timor-Leste's ASEAN Membership and Future' with Professor Shintaro Fukutake of Sophia University.
