JST (President Kazuhito Hashimoto) will host the '16th National Kagaku no Koshien Competition,' a nationwide science competition for high school students held on a school-versus-school basis, from Friday, March 19, 2027, to Monday, March 22, 2027 (a national holiday), at the Tsukuba International Congress Center and Tsukuba Capio.
At the national competition, 47 representative schools selected from each prefecture will participate in both 'written exams' and 'practical challenges' across multiple fields including science and technology, mathematics, and information technology, competing for the highest total score. This event is co-organized by Ibaraki Prefecture, the Ibaraki Prefectural Board of Education, the city of Tsukuba, and the National Natural Science Division of the Japan Federation of High School Cultural Clubs (planned), with sponsorship and cooperation from the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (planned), among others.
Furthermore, this competition serves as a new model for cultivating science and technology talent through collaboration among industry, academia, and government. Through active involvement from sponsoring companies, it aims to foster individuals who can proactively and creatively solve problems in a global society.
JST is committed to systematic talent development that nurtures students' abilities according to their developmental stages. Through initiatives such as the 'National Kagaku no Koshien Competition' and its junior version for middle school students, JST aims to broaden the base of science enthusiasts and provide students with opportunities to fully demonstrate their talents and inspire one another.
