JTB Selected for Ministry of the Environment's "FY2026 Model Project for Promoting Decarbonization Across the Entire Value Chain"

JTB Corp. (Headquarters: Minato-ku, Tokyo) is pleased to announce that it has been selected, along with two partner companies, for the "FY2026 Model Project for Promoting Decarbonization Across the Entire Value Chain" solicited by the Ministry of the Environment.

Background and Objectives

The JTB Group positions sustainability at the core of its management and, in its "Sustainability Policy," advocates for measures against climate change and the inheritance of natural resources for future generations. Furthermore, in collaboration with its business partners, the Group aims to realize a sustainable society across the entire supply chain based on its "Sustainable Procurement Policy." The Group has also obtained certification for its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets from the international climate change initiative "SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative)" and has set a "Total Emissions Reduction Target" for FY2030, as well as a "Supplier Engagement Target" for reducing emissions across the entire supply chain (Scope 3), promoting initiatives to achieve these goals.

Promoting decarbonization in the tourism industry requires collaboration with business partners such as accommodation providers, transportation companies, and local program operators who form its extensive supply chain.

Through its selection for this model project, the JTB Group will embody its SBTi supplier engagement target and promote the establishment of a decarbonization promotion scheme across the entire value chain, alongside the creation of a sustainable society.

Main Initiatives in This Model Project

In this model project, in collaboration with two partner companies among JTB Group's valued business partners, we will build and verify a decarbonization promotion model focusing on the following:

Establishment of a scheme for calculating and visualizing emissions within the supply chain

Balancing emissions reduction and profit improvement through decarbonization promotion across the entire supply chain

Strengthening supplier engagement

Future Outlook

The JTB Group will leverage the knowledge and framework gained through this model project not only to achieve its SBTi targets but also to develop it into a common foundation for the entire tourism industry, thereby leading initiatives for decarbonization promotion. Specifically, the Group plans to lead the development of industry-wide Scope 3 calculation rules and engagement guidelines, aiming to promote data collaboration within the industry and support the entry of new companies.
