Junkan-zukuri Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: 413-4 Hirakogaoka, Midori-ku, Nagoya, Aichi, Representative: Masashi Hamatani, hereinafter "Junkan-zukuri") will hold a children's workshop "Let's Create a 'Pet' That Eats Food Scraps!" using the compost service "Compospets" on July 25, 2026 (Sat) at moss ARIMATSU (Arimatsu, Midori-ku, Nagoya).

This workshop aims to teach children about the food cycle, the environment, and microorganisms and soil in a fun way, by having them assemble a cardboard compost bin themselves, treating food scraps as a "pet," and experiencing growing it. It can also be used as a theme for summer vacation free research projects.

Compospets Box Experience

Background of the Project

In April 2026, Junkan-zukuri officially launched its IoT compost service "Compospets" for households, starting the creation of a "small cycle" system where food scraps from households are composted into fertilizer and used to grow plants in home gardens.

However, compost is not yet widely recognized, and even adults tend to have the image that it is "difficult" or "hard to get started with." Junkan-zukuri planned this workshop with the aim of lowering this psychological barrier and allowing children to interact with compost with the "feeling of raising a living thing."

Borubox-kun

By assembling the cardboard compost bin "Compospets Box" with their own hands and observing the decomposition of food scraps along with the character "Borubox-kun," the workshop aims to capture children's interest from both environmental education and free research perspectives.

Future Developments

Following this children's workshop as the first phase, Junkan-zukuri plans to hold compost workshops for adults in the future. They aim to provide opportunities for many people to experience composting and incorporate it into their lives.

In the medium to long term, they plan to develop initiatives to collect compost made at home, create mature compost in the region, and use that compost to grow vegetables by organic farmers for local sale. Junkan-zukuri aims to expand the "small cycle" of households from "individual efforts" to a "regionally connected cycle."
