KDDI Launches 'povo's Smartphone Insurance' Starting at 190 Yen/Month, Covering New and Used Devices Regardless of Carrier

KDDI, Okinawa Cellular, KDDI Digital Life, and au Small Amount and Short Term Insurance announced the launch of "povo's Smartphone Insurance" on May 21, 2026. This insurance product covers common smartphone issues such as screen cracks, water damage, and mechanical failures.

The service is available to all smartphone users regardless of their mobile carrier. It offers three tiers to meet different user needs and device conditions: "Simple" (190 JPY/month), "Standard 5" (270 JPY/month), and "Standard 10" (380 JPY/month). Notably, users can also include their family members' smartphones under the policy, providing comprehensive coverage for the entire household.

To celebrate the launch, a campaign is being held for new applicants. The first 20,000 sign-ups will receive a "Data Unlimited (2 hours)" promo code for use with povo2.0. Additionally, participants are entered into a lottery to win a "3GB (30 days)" promo code.

The insurance is sold by au Small Amount and Short Term Insurance using the "povo" brand name provided by KDDI and Okinawa Cellular. KDDI Digital Life, the operator of povo2.0, acts as the insurance agent for the service.

Product Lineup 1. Standard 10 (380 JPY/mo) - Coverage: Damage, water, failure, and theft. - Eligibility: Devices within 2 years of purchase (new/used/any carrier). - Benefit: Up to 100,000 JPY.

2. Standard 5 (270 JPY/mo) - Coverage: Damage, water, failure, and theft. - Eligibility: Devices within 2 years of purchase (new/used/any carrier). - Benefit: Up to 50,000 JPY.

3. Simple (190 JPY/mo) - Coverage: Damage and water. - Eligibility: No restriction on purchase date (new/used/any carrier). - Benefit: Up to 50,000 JPY.
