This list will be presented to approximately 6,900 incoming students in April 2026, encouraging the importance of reading as they begin their university life. 【Key Points of this Announcement】 ・Kansai University President, Maruzen-Yushodo, and Kinokuniya have selected '100 recommended books.' ・This unique Kansai University reading promotion project, now in its 9th year, was launched with the desire to 'put a stop to the decline in reading among young people.' ・Prioritizing paper over digital—responding to the genuine preferences revealed in student surveys.

'100 Books for New Students' was launched with the desire to 'put a stop to the decline in reading among young people.' This is the 9th year of this unique reading promotion project. The 100 selected books consist of 20 books recommended by Kansai University President Tomoyuki Takahashi, and 40 books each recommended by Maruzen-Yushodo and Kinokuniya. With the hope that students will 'visit bookstores and encounter even more books during their university years,' the guide includes photos of the two partner bookstores' large locations in Osaka City. The procurement of these books (including e-books) is supported by the university's Education Support Association (the parents' association), positioning them as a gift from parents to their children. ■ 'Paper over Digital'—Responding to Preferences Revealed in Surveys A survey conducted by the university library revealed that students tend to prefer physical books over e-books. Consequently, the proportion of physical books has been significantly increased compared to previous years.
