Kato Works Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo; President: Yasuyasu Kato; hereinafter "the company") has launched the 12-ton class hydraulic excavator 'HD512-9' as the third model in its newly refreshed REGZAM series, with sales commencing in July 2026.

Development Background

Construction sites increasingly demand reduced environmental impact, improved fuel efficiency, and enhanced work efficiency, safety, comfort, and serviceability. The 12-ton class hydraulic excavator is particularly vital for urban road construction, water and sewage projects, residential land development, and small-scale civil engineering, where limited workspace requires efficient performance.

To meet these needs, the company has upgraded its REGZAM series hydraulic excavators. The new model retains the fundamental performance of its predecessor while enhancing the 12-ton class’s signature mobility and powerful operation. Through redesigned components, it improves work efficiency, environmental performance, durability, serviceability, comfort, safety, and fleet management.

Key Features

1. Work Performance

Optimized hydraulic system leveraging the new engine’s output and torque delivers strong, smooth, and stress-free operation while reducing fuel consumption.

Travel Performance

10% increase in drawbar pull

Swing Performance

18% increase in swing torque

Fuel Consumption

10% reduction in fuel consumption during 90-degree swing dump operation (in P-mode)

Additionally, the machine offers expandability for various attachments, enabling versatile use across diverse job sites (optional)

2. Environmental Considerations

Equipped with a new clean engine

Complies with Japan’s 2014 Special Off-Road Vehicle Emission Regulations and European Stage V emission standards

Designated as a 'Super Low-Noise Construction Machine' by Japan’s Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism (MLIT)

Achieves noise levels more than 6 dB below the MLIT standard for 'Low-Noise Construction Machines'

Certified by MLIT as meeting 100% of the 2020 Fuel Efficiency Standards (☆☆☆ rating)

Recognized under MLIT’s Fuel Efficiency Standard Certification System for construction machinery achieving specified fuel efficiency targets

Equipped with exhaust aftertreatment unit (DOC + DPF + SCR)

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) captures particulate matter (PM) in exhaust, significantly reducing emissions, while efficiently burning and regenerating accumulated soot. Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) reduces nitrogen oxides (NOx) in exhaust gases

3. Durability and Serviceability

Replaced boom and arm joint bushes (bearings) with high-performance sintered bushes, improving grease retention on pins and enhancing durability

Upgraded swing motor increases durability by 35%

Integrated layout consolidates various filters in the engine compartment, improving daily inspection and maintenance access

4. Cab Comfort

Adopts a new cab (operator seat) with expanded front space, including foot area, enhancing comfort during entry/exit and operation

Retains the well-regarded APC control system, enabling optimal settings for work modes and attachment hydraulic flow via touch panel

Introduces a split-type floor mat for easier cleaning

5. Safety

Expanded camera image display area on the 7-inch wide LCD panel by 91% in surface area, improving visibility

Equipped with side defroster function, which blows air from inside the cab onto side windows to remove fog and frost, enhancing right-side visibility and supporting safe, comfortable operation

Newly introduces a human detection surround view system (optional), detecting people around the machine to reduce accident risks

6. Security and Manageability

Equipped with telematics (fleet management system) 'K-cast'

Enables remote monitoring of individual machine location, operating status, fuel level, etc., improving fleet management efficiency and optimizing site operations and maintenance planning

Adopts a new entry system

Replaces tag authentication with password-based authentication, reducing risks of tag loss and vehicle theft
