Kawade Shobo Shinsha Co., Ltd. will release 'Naruhodo Vermeer' (tax-included price 1,100 yen), supervised by Nobuyuki Senzoku, from Kawade Bunko on June 8, 2026.
Vermeer, the master born in 17th-century Netherlands. One of his iconic works, 'Girl with a Pearl Earring,' will be coming to Japan this summer.
'Girl with a Pearl Earring' is owned by the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, Netherlands, and is usually 'not for loan.' However, the museum's temporary closure for renovations has made this visit to Japan possible. It marks the first time in 14 years since the 'Mauritshuis Exhibition' in 2012, which attracted approximately 1.2 million visitors in Tokyo and Osaka.
Director Martine Gosselink commented, 'For our museum, this journey of the 'Girl' is perhaps the final special opportunity to send her to everyone in Japan.'
This book includes all 35 existing Vermeer works in color. It gently and clearly explains the secrets of numerous masterpieces such as 'The Milkmaid,' 'The Wine Glass,' and 'The Love Letter.'
Book Contents: 1. Decoding masterpieces through keywords: Commentary on 12 selected works, including highlights and mysteries. 2. Surprising tricks hidden on the canvas: What are the meanings behind the techniques and motifs?
