Final Issue of 'Spin/Spin' to Be Released on June 29!

Kawade Shobo Shinsha Co., Ltd. (Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo / President Yu Onodera) announces the cover and table of contents for the 16th issue (final issue) of the cross-genre magazine 'Spin/Spin,' scheduled for release on Monday, June 29, 2026.

The 16th issue, marking the final publication of 'Spin/Spin,' is now available!

From Kagurazaka, Shinjuku-ku, Tokyo, we present the final 16th issue of the cross-genre magazine 'Spin.' The cover features the words of novelist Riku Onda, accompanied by artwork from Paul Cox.

The paper used for the cover and table of contents was selected in collaboration with Takeo Co., Ltd., a specialist paper distributor. Each issue uses different paper types, including limited-stock or newly introduced papers.

The cover uses the fine paper "Prima N – FS," featuring a soft cloud-like base pattern combined with delicate vertical lines. The table of contents uses "Shin Dangami Kirara," a fine paper that mechanically reproduces the wrinkled texture of traditional Japanese 'dangami' paper. Both papers offer an elegant and gentle tactile experience. We invite you to enjoy them visually and by touch (also see 'The Name of the Paper' featured in the magazine).

As always, the magazine presents serialized fiction from acclaimed authors across genres (Michi Iho, Mika Omori, Riku Onda, Shion Sakuragi, Hitoko Sawada, Shunichi Dohba, Yoko Hirama, Shu Fujisawa), and this final issue continues with new works from notable writers.

"Now then, let us begin the dispersal ceremony." — Water, returning home after ten years, is suddenly told of a "dispersal ceremony" during a long-awaited family dinner. The 16th issue opens with voice actor Sohma Saito's short story, 'Farewell Party.'

Wan Ohara, whose debut short story collection 'How to Keep the Wind' has received attention, presents the short story 'Sign.' Enjoy this narrative of observation, capturing everyday life like a landscape and relationships through vivid perspectives.

Book critic Yuma Watanabe makes his fiction debut in 'Spin/Spin'! Set in the game company HEPTA SOFT, producer Sudo teams up with his former classmate Iseki to develop a new game... Experience the novel 'I Hope I Die Doing What I Want,' crafted with the unique insight and structure only a game writer could deliver.

Poet Ryoichi Wago debuts his first fiction, 'Knock Fiercely, in the Middle of the Night.' "It is something like a beast dwelling within oneself, a madness so intense it's almost imperceptible in his otherwise calm demeanor." — Where will this anger, overflowing beyond time and space, lead? Please pay close attention.

Following the 'Midnight' theme in issue 14, we present the second installment of our cross-genre thematic project: 'Hero.'

Fiction by Reisuke Kaneko, poetry by Fumikazu Iwakura, tanka by Hiro Sakakibara, haiku by Tefuko Matsumoto, essay by Awa Ito, and artwork by Izumi Shiozawa. Immerse yourself in the world created by six genres centered on the theme of 'Hero.'

Poet Maho Okamoto's tanka series 'Lenticular' gently frees us from a world with fixed perspectives!

Essays by poet Daisuke Okano, Kotam planning director Ryo Kimura, religious scholar Susumu Shimanoura, manga artist Daisuke Terazawa, playwright Kazuki Nakajima, and Omokoro writer-director Monsoon offer diverse worlds, from creative philosophy and reading techniques to personal confessions (?)—all worth exploring.

Special contributions from novelist Hiroko Minagawa and Numaki Motoki's photo-and-text feature are also highlights. Don't miss them!

The fourth installment of the 140th-anniversary special project, '140 People, 140 Books, This One Sentence,' is featured.

Each selector picks their 'one Kawade book,' sharing 'this one sentence' from the work, a personal 'comment,' and an original illustration 'Fukurou-san' by designer Bunpei Yorito. The diverse selectors were chosen based on recommendations from all company employees.

The third installment of Dokusho Saru's (autodidact) series 'Compound Bias – Cascading, Concurrent, and Looping Cognitive Biases' is also stimulating!

The final installment of Tahi Saikako's poetry series 'My Eyes Reflect in the Character's Blood Pond,' dedicated to fictional characters, is the 'Glass Mask Poetry Collection.'

Actor Midori Lawrence Ohta contributes to the 'Column: Daily.'

In the final 'Book Talk' column, magazine designer Akira Sasaki appears, sharing behind-the-scenes stories of 'Spin/Spin's' founding and design.

Also featured are Sohma Saito's unique essay series 'Let's Buy Books, Let's Go Out to the City,' Yuma Watanabe's 'Talks on Poetry,' and the popular book review series 'Rare Book Store: Hard-to-Find but Amazing Books,' where editor Yasunori Tokawa and philosopher Rei Nagai express their passionate thoughts on rare books.

'The Paper Story' is presented as a special edition. Writer Satetsu Takeda interviews Takeo Shigeta, Chairman of Takeo Co., Ltd., who has accompanied the magazine since its inception.

Launched in July 2022 and first published in September, 'Spin/Spin' concludes with this issue.
