KHB Higashi Nihon Broadcasting (headquartered in Taihaku-ku, Sendai City) will mark the 400th broadcast of its youth documentary program "Meyase! Teitoku" on Saturday, July 11. The show supports and closely follows high school students in Miyagi Prefecture who are dedicated to their extracurricular activities.
"Meyase! Teitoku" began in April 2016, offering in-depth coverage of high school clubs across Miyagi Prefecture. The program captures the passionate youth of students striving for the top through rigorous training.
The historic 400th episode spotlights the girls' basketball team of Miyagi Daiichi High School, a prestigious academic institution with a long tradition. The team, which champions "thinking basketball" and academic-athletic balance, trained diligently last year with a core of second-year students. However, they were eliminated in the quarterfinals of the prefectural tournament and failed to qualify for the Tohoku Regional Championships. The main reason was their passive play and lack of individual initiative in offense.
Now as third-year students, the same team has returned this year, transformed by the bitterness of defeat and with renewed focus on their goals as they entered the prefectural tournament.
Did they succeed in reaching the Tohoku Regional Championships for the first time since 2008? The episode closely follows their strategic, thoughtful approach to basketball as they aim for victory.
