kivi, a company that designs spaces based on the principles of biophilic design to promote physical and mental health and productivity, is implementing a biophilic design project at 'WORK VILLA YAESU,' a wellness workplace operated by Sumitomo Corporation.
The initiative aims to provide urban workers with the biophilia effect—a benefit derived from natural environments that humans instinctively seek—by featuring artwork capturing the overwhelming natural beauty of national parks and the relationship between people and nature. The project introduces photographs from the 'Goldwin National Parks Adventure,' a project by Goldwin Inc. aimed at promoting the value of national parks from multiple perspectives. Under kivi’s art direction, real landscapes of Japan’s rich nature will be installed into the office space.
Furthermore, through this project, tour events in national parks under 'Goldwin National Parks Adventure' will be organized as content for corporate environmental and outdoor education, team building, and communication promotion.
Project Name: kivi × Goldwin National Parks Adventure Address: WORK VILLA YAESU, 1-18-1 Kyobashi, Chuo-ku, Tokyo Content: Biophilic design proposal by kivi. Utilizing photography from Rishiri-Rebun-Sarobetsu, Yoshino-Kumano, and Akan-Mashu National Parks, kivi proposes a service that not only brings biophilic benefits to office tenants but also includes a packaged environmental/outdoor training program in these national parks.
kivi's Role in this Project kivi's activities are based on the philosophy of 'biophilia,' which focuses on the instinctive human desire to connect with nature. By precisely placing images of real national parks in the share lounge of 'WORK VILLA YAESU,' the project achieves 'functionalization' of the space, reducing psychological stress through visual experience and drawing out the creativity of office tenants. They are giving shape to next-generation office environments that go beyond mere decoration.
○ Coordinating biophilic natural scenery for the WORK VILLA YAESU share lounge ○ Planning and proposing Goldwin’s environmental and outdoor training programs for tenant companies ○ Designing new contact points between 'Goldwin National Parks Adventure' and urban-based companies ○ Planning and proposing the future of workplaces through new biophilic design
What is Biophilic Design? Humans have an instinctive desire to connect with and be healed by nature. Interaction with nature brings benefits such as reduced stress, improved concentration, and physical/mental healing, collectively known as the 'biophilia effect.' Biophilic design is an approach that designs spaces by actively incorporating natural elements to elicit these effects.
Scientific Effects of Natural Landscapes: ○ 6% productivity improvement: Research shows that workplaces incorporating natural elements report 6% higher productivity compared to those without. ○ 15% creativity improvement: It has become clear that the creativity of workers can be significantly influenced by their surrounding environment and the extent to which it incorporates natural elements. ○ 15% improvement in happiness
