Gion Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, President: Gion Akinosuke), a comprehensive logistics company, held a "Traffic Safety Class" for approximately 60 third-grade students from Tanakita Elementary School at GLP ALFALINK Sagamihara on June 10, 2026. This initiative has been conducted since 2022 and marks its fourth year.

Protecting the Safety of Local Children

According to statistics from the National Police Agency, traffic accidents involving elementary school students tend to increase in May and June throughout the year (※Traffic Accidents Involving Elementary School Students in Reiwa 6, National Police Agency). This is attributed to the period after the start of the new school year when children become accustomed to their routines and may let their guard down during commutes.

As part of its community-based activities in Sagamihara City, Kanagawa Prefecture, where its head office and logistics warehouses are located, the company holds an annual "Traffic Safety Class" for students of Tanakita Elementary School.

This year, the event was co-hosted by Isuzu Motors Capital Region Co., Ltd., GLP Japan Inc., and our company. In addition to experiencing "blind spots" and "inner wheel difference" using trucks, there was also traffic safety guidance from the Sagamihara Police Station, making it a day for broader learning about traffic safety.

Scenes from the Day's Program

The day's program involved experiencing the following three activities in a rotational format:

Truck Riding Experience: Sitting in the driver's seat to experience the "blind spots" where areas directly beneath and to the sides of the vehicle are difficult to see.

Inner Wheel Difference Demonstration: Recreating the scene of a turning truck contacting a cardboard box to confirm the danger of "hook-in" accidents.

Traffic Safety Guidance (Sagamihara Police Station): Learning content directly related to commutes, such as the correct way to ride a bicycle and how to cross at crosswalks.

Through these experiences, the children learned about "the fact that there are areas invisible to the driver that are visible to them" and "the importance of maintaining distance from vehicles."
