Kodansha Ltd. will launch an AR card game based on the popular children's book series 'Obake Zukan' on July 16, 2026.

The original 'Obake Zukan' fairy tale series is a bestseller unknown to adults, with over 2.7 million copies sold worldwide. Centered on the theme of 'scary but fun,' it humorously depicts ways to escape ghosts and has been adapted into a TV anime and live-action drama.

The app is designed to be playable with a free download, and the experience greatly expands when users scan separately sold Obake Cards (AR cards).

Obake Cards (AR cards) will be available at bookstores and online retailers. The three most popular titles among children—'School,' 'Restaurant,' and 'Festival'—will be released simultaneously.

In 'My Obake,' players can manage collected characters in a list and create their own 'Obake Encyclopedia.' This system stimulates children's collecting instincts and encourages repeated play through the joy of collecting.

The AR cards can also be used as a face-to-face card game. Players simultaneously reveal their Obake Cards, battle based on ghost strength, and the player who collects more Obake Cards wins—a simple yet engaging game.
