Konoike Transport Expands Double-Connected Truck Round-Trip Transportation Routes

Konoike Transport Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Chuo-ku, Osaka; Chairman, President and Representative Director: Tadahiko Konoike) will launch a new round-trip transportation route using double-connected trucks on Monday, May 25, to transport products for Suntory Holdings Limited (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka; President and CEO: Nobuhiko Niinami) and Daikin Industries, Ltd. (Headquarters: Kita-ku, Osaka; President and COO: Masanori Togawa).

Aiming to realize sustainable and highly productive logistics, Konoike Transport introduced double-connected trucks in May 2024. Since July 2024, the company has been engaged in cross-industry round-trip transportation for Suntory Group and Daikin, transporting Suntory Group’s soft drink products between Yamanashi and Kyoto Prefectures on the outward trip, and Daikin’s air conditioning products between Shiga and Kanagawa Prefectures on the return trip.

On the new route, Konoike will transport Suntory Group’s alcoholic beverages and soft drinks between Gunma and Kyoto Prefectures on the outward trip, and Daikin’s air conditioning products between Osaka and Kanagawa Prefectures on the return trip. By switching part of both companies’ transportation on this route to Konoike’s double-connected trucks, the company aims to strengthen supply chains through improved load efficiency, address truck driver shortages, and improve labor conditions. Furthermore, this scheme is expected to reduce the number of trucks operated annually by approximately 250 and reduce CO2 emissions by about 140 tons, further contributing to the reduction of environmental impact.

Konoike Transport has set a CO2 reduction target of 35% (compared to the fiscal year ending March 2019) as one of the non-financial goals in its “2030 Vision.” In its “Medium-Term Management Plan” to achieve this, it has established “Pursuit of Sustainability” as one of its key priorities, setting a three-year CO2 reduction target of 28% (compared to the fiscal year ending March 2019). Through various measures, the company continues to contribute to the realization of a decarbonized and sustainable society in addition to improving operational efficiency and labor conditions.
