Kyoto University of Foreign Studies to Host Overtourism Panel Discussion on June 8

On June 8, 2026, Kyoto University of Foreign Studies (Ukyo-ku, Kyoto; President: Toshirou Kita) will host a panel discussion titled \'Japan\'s Overtourism: Lessons from Kyoto.\' The event is organized in collaboration with ieiMedia and will invite US journalism students, including a professor from San Francisco State University, to explore real-world challenges. Four experts from administrative, academic, media, and guiding fields will discuss economic impacts, socio-cultural costs, and local media coverage. Student interpreters from the university\'s translation talent bank, LinguaLink, will facilitate the session. Attendees will analyze overtourism\'s essence and explore solutions to connect Kyoto\'s lessons to national tourism strategies. The discussion aims to convey local realities to future global media leaders.
