Pangea, a live house in Amerikamura, will host a major event called 'Pangea EXPO' on Saturday, June 13, to commemorate its 15th anniversary. In addition to music performances across 14 venues in the Amerikamura area, the event will include talk sessions addressing the hotel and apartment construction boom accelerating in the neighborhood. Alongside experts such as creative director Kota Hikichi, who recently contributed to the Osaka-Kansai Expo, the event will discuss the challenges currently facing live houses and how to navigate urban development.
1. Background of the Event
Pangea is currently in a legal dispute after being asked to vacate by the building owner. Maintaining its stance that it 'does not need to leave,' the venue planned this event to mark its 15th anniversary. It also aims to express to musicians, music professionals, and the local community its resolve to 'continue operations.'
This issue is not unique to Pangea. In recent years, land prices in the Amerikamura area have soared, causing individual shops and cultural spots to disappear. Meanwhile, last year's Osaka-Kansai Expo visualized the structure where 'citizen participation and information dissemination accelerate cultural activities and enrich the lives of those involved.'
Inspired by this, 'Pangea EXPO' was planned as an event bridging music, art, and local activities. The team invited Kota Hikichi, who worked as a producer for art projects at the Expo, to join the operations team, seeking ways to involve not only music fans but also the people of the city.
2. Event Overview
The event will involve art projects featuring 10 artists and a synchronized garbage-picking activity, making it a composite event that engages the entire area.
