LONGi (LONGi Green Energy Technology Co., Ltd., headquartered in Xi'an, China) has continuously broken world records in the research and development of perovskite/crystalline silicon tandem solar cells over the past three years, progressing from research cells to commercial-sized and flexible cells. As its latest achievement, the company announced on July 14 a world-record cell conversion efficiency of 35.5%. This record has been certified by the European Solar Test Installation (ESTI) as the highest efficiency in the world.

At the event held on July 14, LONGi announced the achievement of a 35.5% world-record conversion efficiency for perovskite-tandem solar cell technology.

Perovskite/silicon tandem solar cells are next-generation photovoltaic devices that stack a perovskite layer on top of conventional crystalline silicon solar cells, enabling more efficient utilization of different light wavelengths and surpassing the efficiency limits of current mainstream technologies.

Over the past three years, LONGi has updated the world’s highest conversion efficiency for research cells five times. It has also set world records in research areas targeting future commercialization, including M6-sized cells (designed for commercial use) and flexible cells.

This demonstrates LONGi’s technology development strategy, which emphasizes not only achieving peak efficiency in laboratory settings but also advancing research that leads directly to practical productization and mass production.

History of world record updates for perovskite/silicon tandem (multi-junction) solar cell conversion efficiency

LONGi does not aim solely at setting laboratory-level world records; instead, it prioritizes translating research outcomes into future mass production technologies and commercial products.

Alongside high-efficiency research cells, LONGi is simultaneously advancing R&D on M6-sized and flexible cells with practical applications in mind. Leveraging its expertise in BC (Back Contact) technology, the company is working toward the societal implementation of next-generation tandem solar cells.

Going forward, LONGi will continue to drive technological innovation that balances high efficiency with improved reliability, steadily transforming research achievements into practical technologies to contribute to the realization of a global decarbonized society.
