Go-un-kai's 30th-anniversary commemorative performance will feature the Noh play 'Matsukaze'.

This piece, created by Zeami, is a particularly popular program among current repertoire.

Go-un-kai, held at the Kita Noh Theater in Meguro. This year, to commemorate the 30th anniversary, a photo exhibition will also be held in the second-floor lounge of the Noh theater. The exhibition will feature performance photos of Yuto Tomoeda taken by photographer Tokuyoshi Nabeshima. Mr. Nabeshima's performance photos are very beautiful, and we hope the audience will enjoy them along with the Noh performance.

Performance Overview

This year's Go-un-kai on Saturday, September 5th, I will perform the role of Matsukaze.

The lingering summer heat may still be intense, but I hope you can feel the autumn breeze a little early.

This piece is themed around the encounter of Ariwara no Yukihira (the elder brother of Narihira) with the salt-gathering women Matsukaze and Murasame, sisters he met when forced into seclusion in Suma.

The feelings of Yukihira, suffering the misfortune of exile from the capital, and the unforgettable, albeit fleeting, memories of the sisters' encounter with a noble of a different social standing.

Through Yukihira, the sensibility that Suma evokes a desolate, lonely atmosphere took root in the medieval period, and Murasaki Shikibu also sent Hikaru Genji into exile in Suma to depict this lonely atmosphere.

The brilliantly shining moon, the autumn wind against the skin, the sound of waves rustling in the ears—various atmospheres spread across the three-by-four-meter stage through the lingering traces of human emotions.

For this performance, we will display performance photos of me taken by photographer Tokuyoshi Nabeshima in the second-floor lobby of the Kita Noh Theater.

We hope you will enjoy them along with the performance.

We sincerely look forward to your visit.
