Knowledge sometimes saves people, sometimes hurts them.

For whom does science exist? How should those who know the truth confront that knowledge?

'The Life of Galileo' is a thrilling human drama depicting the life of astronomer Galileo Galilei. Through astronomical observations, Galileo makes discoveries that overturn common sense, but soon becomes embroiled in conflict with great powers.

Author Bertolt Brecht wrote this work while in exile fleeing the Nazi regime. While portraying a historical scientist, he vividly depicts human courage, weakness, and the lives of people living through changing times.

Theatrical Company Haiyuza will perform one Brecht work each year for the next three years. The first work is especially special for Haiyuza, as it was translated by the company's founder Koreya Senda in 1958.

The discovery that shook the world 400 years ago gives us a new perspective today. Experience the joy of knowing, the difficulty of trusting others, and the weight of steps that change history. Please experience this grand historical turning point at the theater.

~Synopsis~

Galileo, who fled the Catholic Church's censorship, is superimposed with the author who fled Nazi rule, and the story progresses.

Galileo, who advocated heliocentrism, confronts the Vatican, and a quiet but fierce battle over retraction ensues.

Eventually brought before the Inquisition, Galileo yields and retracts his theory.

Confined to house arrest, Galileo completes the "Two New Sciences," but it also means handing over science that should belong to the people into the hands of power.
