Zeami, the great master of Noh and the author of 'Izutsu,' proudly described it as 'Izutsu, Kami-bana' – possessing the highest flower.

The protagonist on stage is the daughter of Kii no Aritsune, who was the wife of Ariwara no Narihira, a rare handsome nobleman. Effectively using the waka poems appearing in 'The Tales of Ise,' she sings of her memories with Narihira and contemplates her reflection in the well while wearing Narihira's robes. In the Kyogen play 'Nariagari,' Mansai Nomura humorously portrays the Taro Kantaro desperately making excuses by any means necessary.

Shimai (Dance-chant): 'Kasano Dan' / Yoshimasa Kanze

Kyogen (Comic interlude): 'Nariagari' / Mansai Nomura

Noh (Classical Japanese musical drama): 'Izutsu' / Takashi Kuwata
