Manraku Inc. (Miyazaki City) hosted a special 'Kids Eel Catching Experience' at its restaurant Unagi-dokoro Manraku during the 2026 Golden Week holiday. Held on April 29 and May 2-6 from 11:00 to 15:00, the free outdoor event was open to dine-in customers without reservations. Small child-safe eels were used, and caught eels were given as take-home gifts rather than served on-site. The event aimed to let families 'learn about, touch, and savor' eels beyond simply eating them. Many families with young children participated, with wait times forming on busy days. Three-generation groups were also observed, with grandparents sharing memories of catching river eels. Parents were seen explaining to children that the small eels grow into the ones served at the restaurant, naturally connecting the experience to the meal. TV news coverage and internet searches during the holiday brought in out-of-prefecture visitors as well. The company views the event as a successful model for combining dining with experiential value and plans to continue similar initiatives.
