Maruai Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Ichikawamisato, Yamanashi; President: Michiya Muramatsu), a paper and chemical manufacturer dedicated to the motto 'Wrapping hearts and lives,' will release the 2026 edition of 'Obondama' pouches and large envelopes starting April 27, 2026. These products are designed for giving money to children, grandchildren, and loved ones during the summer holidays and Obon season.

Maruai is a 138-year-old paper products manufacturer. The company has been producing celebratory envelopes and stationery that connect people's feelings for over a century, holding the top market share in the Shugi-bukuro industry.

'Obondama' is a term coined and trademarked by Maruai, inspired by the New Year's tradition of 'Otoshidama.' Since launching in 2010, the company has proposed this as a new form of summer communication. Currently, recognition of the term has reached approximately 30%, spreading as a new summer staple.

The 2026 lineup refreshes last year's collection with 16 types across four series: 'Window Pouches,' 'Polar Bear,' 'Japanese Style,' and 'Animals.' Notably, the Polar Bear series now includes 'Manen-bukuro' (large envelopes) for bills that do not need to be folded.

2026 Product Lineup: - Window Pouches (with color-changing gimmick): 4 types (Shell, Whale, Watermelon, Shaved Ice) - 363 JPY (tax incl.), launches May 11. - Polar Bear Series (with stickers): Pochi-bukuro (2 types) and Manen-bukuro (2 types) - 253 JPY (tax incl.), launches May 11. - Japanese Style: Pochi-bukuro and Manen-bukuro (2 types each: Goldfish, Fireworks) - 132 JPY (tax incl.), launches April 27. - Animal Series: 4 types (Corgi, Duck, Elephant, Panda) - 132 JPY (tax incl.), launches April 27.
