Maruzen Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Onomichi, Hiroshima; President: Yasuhiro Higurashi) has introduced renewable energy power generation via a PPA (Power Purchase Agreement) at its Miyoshi Plant (Miyoshi, Hiroshima), effective March 2026. Maruzen Pharmaceuticals Co., Ltd. Miyoshi Plant
At the Miyoshi Plant, our primary facility for food ingredients, we have been working to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, such as by switching boiler heat sources from heavy oil A to LNG. With the installation of solar panels on the building's roof via PPA, we have converted a portion of our electricity consumption to renewable energy as of March 2026. This initiative is expected to convert approximately 460,000 kWh of electricity to renewable energy annually, resulting in a reduction of 250 tons of CO2 per year. Additionally, our Shin-Onomichi Plant, which has its own solar panels, reduces CO2 by 88 tons (160,000 kWh) annually, and our Kui Farm reduces CO2 by 32 tons (60,000 kWh) annually. In the new fiscal year, we plan to introduce PPA at our General Research Institute (Fukuyama, Hiroshima) and transition the electricity used at our Tokyo Branch (Shibuya, Tokyo) to renewable energy. To achieve our 2030 goal of a 46% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to 2013 levels—a key materiality target—we will continue to strive for emissions reduction across the entire company.
