Tomorrow, May 31, is World No Tobacco Day, established by the World Health Organization (WHO) to promote smoking cessation.
On this day, the Japan Medical Association (President: Yoshiro Matsumoto) will hold a seminar for middle school students at the Yokohama Bay Hotel Tokyu to discuss the harmful effects of tobacco on the body, as well as an award ceremony for the 'Let’s Promote Quitting! Senryu (Poetry) Contest.' Additionally, from approximately 7:00 PM, the 'Giant Ferris Wheel at Yokohama Cosmo World' and the 'Yokohama Marine Tower' will be lit up in yellow-green.
This event is part of the 'Yellow Green Campaign' held across Japan. The color yellow-green represents the sentiment of 'not wanting to breathe in or expose others to secondhand smoke.'
The Japan Medical Association stated: 'On May 31, buildings all across Japan, not just in Yokohama, will be illuminated in yellow-green. We hope people will see these displays, take photos, and share them on social media to spread the message of this event: that we want as many people as possible to quit smoking, not only for themselves but for the people around them.'
