As the summer vacation approaches, are any students among you overly concerned about your appearance and engaging in extreme dieting? Extreme dieting can lead to "eating disorders," and many people are unaware that they have an "eating disorder," which is dangerous.

Therefore, the Japan Medical Association (Chairman: Yoshiro Matsumoto) is drawing attention to this issue by featuring "eating disorders" in the latest issue of "Kenko Plaza Plus" (published on the association's website).

In the latest issue, Keisuke Kawai, Vice Director and Head of the Department of Psychosomatic Medicine at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine, National Hospital Organization, explains that in recent years, "binge eating disorder" and "avoidant/restrictive food intake disorder" are also understood as "eating disorders." He also clearly explains the pathology, causes, and treatment of "eating disorders," as well as how family and those around the patient can be involved.

The Japan Medical Association states, "I believe there are many people suffering from eating disorders, as well as their families. The latest issue includes a self-check (table) for those who are worried they may have an eating disorder, as well as information on consultation services for those who are unsure about seeking medical attention. We encourage you to utilize these resources first, and if you have even the slightest concern, please consult a medical institution."
