The Medical Esthetic Association (Representative Director: Makiko Nishio) has launched an official note series chronicling its 47-year history since its founding in 1979, supporting women's economic independence and unveiling the previously undisclosed backstage of the esthetics industry.

Background of the Series Launch: Re-evaluating the Value of 'Hand Techniques' in the AI Era

In today’s rapidly advancing age of AI and automation, the warmth and healing power of human hands are gaining unprecedented value. Since its founding in 1979, our association has supported the economic independence of countless women through reliable techniques centered on hand skills (hand techniques), without relying on expensive equipment. This series is a message of encouragement to all women who wish to 'live by their own hands,' revealing the industry's hidden truths and the turbulent journey to becoming part of a national project.

Key Highlights of the note Series (Planned)

This series will directly confront the 'shadows' of the past industry—once glamorized but socially problematic—and candidly reveal how authentic standards (Medical Esthetics) emerged.

Crisis in a Lawless Industry: The truth of an era without solid qualification standards, where profit-driven practices caused frequent troubles, and the determination to protect women genuinely striving for independence.

The Origin of 'Healing by Hands': The true power of hand techniques discovered through eight years of international volunteer work in harsh environments such as Jamaica and Sudan.

Challenges in Japan’s Toughest Educational Setting: Vocational training for inmates at Tochigi Women’s Prison, commissioned by the Ministry of Justice in 2008, and its astonishing rehabilitation outcomes.

Behind the Scenes of Being Selected for the MHLW 'Model Project': The four reasons the association was chosen as a model for the government’s 'Job Card System' initiative in the esthetics industry.

Founded in 1979. Guided by Representative Nishio’s philosophy of 'a skilled hand, a healing heart,' the association has long led the training of estheticians, including the formulation of a model project certified by the Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. Notably, it has an 18-year track record of commissioned projects from the Ministry of Justice. Through vocational training at Tochigi Prison, it continues to support inmates’ social reintegration from both technical and emotional perspectives. Its proven technical expertise and personalized educational approach have earned deep trust not only in the beauty industry but across various sectors.
