Tokyo Metropolitan Government aims to improve the quality of life for its citizens by actively releasing administrative data and fostering the creation of new services by civic tech communities and private enterprises.
To accelerate this initiative, the 'Governor's Cup Open Data Hackathon 2026' will be held to plan and develop digital services for social issue resolution, utilizing data from the Tokyo Open Data Catalog Site.
This is the 6th edition of the event, which saw 1,327 participants last year. It has been well-received, with participants praising the experience for discovering the fun of service development and facilitating networking.
This year, to encourage wider participation, generative AI development support tools will be provided from the application stage, lowering technical hurdles and boosting challenges from a diverse range of applicants.
In addition to free proposals from participants, services based on themes selected through citizen feedback will also be accepted.
