Mori Trust Hotels & Resorts Co., Ltd., and its subsidiaries (Mampyo Hotel Co., Ltd., Sunmarina Operations Co., Ltd.) are pleased to announce that 18 hotels operated by the company have received certification for "Sakura Quality An ESG Practice" (hereinafter referred to as "Sakura Quality Green"), Japan's first ESG certification developed by Sakura Quality Management Co., Ltd. We believe this is a result of the evaluation of our sustainability initiatives, which our operated hotels have been promoting together with their respective regions.

Sakura Quality Green is a certification system that comprehensively evaluates sustainability, regional contribution, environmental consideration, and the building of sound relationships with employees in the tourism industry. Initiatives that align with the global trend of SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) are required, and our operated hotels have implemented the following initiatives:

Implementation of "Coral Planting Experience" (Iraph SUI Luxury Collection Hotel, Okinawa Miyako)

Volunteer participation in repair work on the Kumano Kodo, a World Heritage site (Nanki-Shirahama Marriott Hotel)

Implementation of workplace experience for children using local specialty products (Courtyard by Marriott Hakuba)

Upcycling and utilization of locally sourced stones and felled trees in buildings (Laforet Hakone Gora Yunosei)

In addition, we are promoting the reduction of plastic amenities, the introduction of renewable energy, and the use of water servers for in-room drinking water across all operated hotels.

Moving forward, we will continue to act as a leader in building a sustainable tourism future together with local communities, providing better travel experiences for our customers while minimizing environmental impact, and working towards the realization of sustainable tourism.

Background of Initiatives

Through our business activities, we aim to coexist not only with the environment but also with the economy and society. As part of this, we strive to be a company trusted by our customers, local communities, and employees for sustainable growth, practicing the reduction of environmental impact, consideration for animal welfare, and active utilization of local resources.

As a hotel operator based on beautiful natural environments and local resources, we believe that we are increasingly required to operate our business with consideration for reducing environmental impact. The acquisition of Sakura Quality Green certification for our 18 operated hotels is a result of the evaluation of the efforts made by each hotel for a sustainable future. We will continue to provide hotels that our customers can use with peace of mind through environmental protection, social contribution, and transparent management.

For the construction of the new building "Laforet Hakone Gora Yunosei Ayakan" opened in January 2024, we have incorporated felled trees and stones from the Hakone volcano into the interior as a reproduction of the land's memory, while preserving the vegetation that has marked the passage of time with the region.

【Courtyard by Marriott Hakuba】

Workplace experience for children using Hakuba Village specialty "Hozuki" (ground cherry)

Image of Cooking Experience

We provided elementary school students with a "fruit hozuki" harvesting experience from local farmers and a cooking experience with hotel chefs using the harvested fruit. This provided an opportunity to experience the connection between food and agriculture, and offered a workplace experience that looks towards the future.
