This release introduces Nadia's recommended eel arrangement recipes and surprising grilled dish recipes that everyone can enjoy, tailored to such budgets and family preferences.
KEY FIGURES
(※1) [Survey] Survey Period/Number of Respondents: June 26 - July 1, 2026 / 1127 Nadia users (varies by question), Research Organization: In-house survey, Target Audience: Nadia registered users, Survey Method: Survey responses solicited via email newsletter.
About 80% are "at-home eaters" for Doyo no Ushi no Hi. The most common ideal budget is "under 2,000 yen."
This year's Doyo no Ushi no Hi is on July 26 (Sun). When asked if they plan to eat eel on this year's Doyo no Ushi no Hi, 21.7% responded "I definitely plan to eat it," and 43.2% responded "I want to eat it if it's affordable."
Furthermore, when asked about their style of eating eel to those who plan to eat it or might eat it, "Buying from supermarkets, department store basements, mail order, etc., and eating at home (71.1%)" was the most common answer. Including "Eating gifts from hometown tax returns or received items at home (5.7%)" and "Buying grilled eel, etc., and eating at home (4.0%)," it was found that about 80% of people who eat eel plan to enjoy it "at home."
Additionally, when asked about the ideal budget per person for "eating at home after purchasing," "1,000 yen or more to less than 2,000 yen (41.1%)" was the most frequent answer, followed by "500 yen or more to less than 1,000 yen (25.8%)." This indicates that about 70% of "at-home eaters" have an ideal budget of "under 2,000 yen" per person.
Ideal budget for eating out tends to be wider. While 2,000-3,000 yen is the most common, there are also responses of 4,000 yen or more.
On the other hand, for the 14.8% who responded "eating out at specialty stores or Japanese restaurants," the budget perception differed from those who eat at home.
When eating out, the most common budget per person was "2,000 yen or more to less than 3,000 yen (30.7%)," followed by "4,000 yen or more to less than 5,000 yen (21.4%)," and then "3,000 yen or more to less than 4,000 yen (17.1%)." About 20% of people responded that they wouldn't mind spending 4,000 yen or more. Including the response "I don't care about the price (9.3%)," it appears that those who eat out have a mindset of "Since it's a special occasion to eat out, I want to enjoy it luxuriously."
The reason for not eating eel is not just "price"? "Family members dislike eel" accounts for 25.3%.
When asked for the reasons for not choosing eel or hesitating among those who answered "I don't eat eel," "I eat grilled dishes other than eel," or "I don't do anything in particular," the following results were obtained (top 3 answers).
1st Place: Because the price is too high (45.5%)
2nd Place: I don't think I need to eat eel specifically during this season (30.6%)
3rd Place: Because there are family members, including myself, who dislike eel (25.3%)
Notably, the comment "There are family members who dislike eel" suggests that it is often difficult to choose eel for meals in such cases.
In fact, Nadia's search data (※2) also shows an increase in search volume for "kabayaki" and specifically "eggplant kabayaki" in July each year, indicating efforts to enjoy the atmosphere of Doyo no Ushi no Hi using familiar ingredients other than eel.
