Benesse House updated its spaces through spring 2026. At Benesse House Museum, Yoshihiro Suda installed 'Rose (Former Public Telephone Site)' in a space where a phone booth was removed. New additions to his 'Weeds' series were placed in unexpected architectural crevices, and illustrations of Setouchi lemon and olive were added to the cafe. At Hiroshi Sugimoto Gallery: Time Corridors, a lounge renovation was led by Sugimoto and Tomoyuki Sakakida's New Material Research Laboratory. It features a colorful carpet referencing Mondrian's geometry and Buddhist shapes, a 10-meter Yakusugi wood table, and four new digital calligraphy works from Sugimoto's 'Brush Impression' series. Suda (b. 1969) is known for hyper-realistic wooden sculptures of plants placed in surprising spaces. Sugimoto (b. 1948) works in photography, architecture, and other fields, exploring time and human perception. He co-founded the New Material Research Laboratory in 2008 to combine ancient techniques with modern spaces. Benesse House Museum is located in Naoshima, Kagawa Prefecture.
